The Benefits of Being an Octopus

Ann Braden

The Benefits of Being an Octopus Zoey wishes she had eight arms like an octopus. Because if she did, she would be able to balance her responsibilities at home caring for her younger brother and sister, doing her schoolwork, and laying low around her mother’s boyfriend Lenny. She tries to be invisible at school, but a teacher recognizes her potential and encourages her to participate on the debate team. With the help of her newly found debate skills, she summons the courage to stand up for herself and her best friend, Fuchsia, who is also dealing with heavy issues at home.
